Beachy love stories with all the swoon and none of the spice.
Looking for no-spice romance books to toss in your beach bag, read by the pool, or enjoy from the comfort of your air-conditioned couch? This sunny summer book list is full of sweet, beachy romances with charming settings, feel-good love stories, and plenty of romantic tension—without the steamy scenes.
1. Summer Ever After
This one is a lot of fun when you need something light and breezy and you like your men in polos. A summertime romcom full of secret crushes, best friend’s brother tension, and one heroine who decides romance novels may be the answer to her dating problems.
But love has other plans, naturally. The more she tries to force sparks, the harder it becomes to ignore Walker Collins, her longtime crush and the one guy she knows she shouldn’t want. He’s only on the island temporarily, and his golf career could take him away at any moment. This one is a fun, beachy pick with an FMC who probably should know better than to let romance tropes run her life.
Heat Level:
No-spice / closed-door romcom
Content Notes:
Romantic tension, best friend’s brother trope, secret crush, fear of heartbreak, mild emotional angst, no explicit scenes or language, KU.
By Kortney Keisel
A sunny, trope-filled romcom about one woman’s very organized plan to find love—and the off-limits man who ruins it in the best possible way.
2. Wild at Heart
I love mysteries as much as I love romance, so I’ve devoured this series so far. Return to Nantucket in the fifth book in the Whitmore series, where the family is still untangling the secrets left behind by the fire that destroyed White Oak Lodge. Jack Whitmore was presumed dead for years—until the truth surfaced that he had survived, built a new life as Seth Green, and kept his past hidden from the people he loved most.
Now Jack has returned, forced to face his siblings, his ailing mother, and the wife who never knew the full truth about the man she married. It’s a heartfelt read if you love romance wrapped in family drama, coastal atmosphere, and long-buried secrets.
Heat Level:
No-spice / clean romance / women’s fiction
Content Notes:
Family secrets, past trauma, illness of a parent, danger/threats, references to a devastating fire, hidden identity, emotional conflict within a marriage, KU.
By Katie Winters
A windswept Nantucket family drama with hidden identities, buried secrets, and a second chance at truth, forgiveness, and home.
3. Meet Me in the Keys
This is the second book in a series of standalones themed around romantic vacation destinations and possibly my fave in the series. In this one, Aubrey Wagner arrives in the Florida Keys hoping to find a little peace after divorce. Instead, she inherits a weathered seaside cottage, a fresh start she isn’t sure she’s ready for, and an unexpected connection with Jake McLean, the guarded local contractor helping her restore the place.
Jake knows how to protect homes from storms, but protecting his own heart is another matter. And when hurricane season closes in and old fears rise to the surface, both of them have to decide whether love is worth the risk. This is a sweet, coastal summer read with small-town charm. Especially good for when you’re not ready to start a whole new series, since it’s a standalone.
Heat Level:
No-spice / kisses-only romance
Content Notes:
Divorce recovery, emotional guardedness, grief from past loss, hurricane danger, storm-related peril, mild romantic tension, no explicit scenes, KU.
By Jillian Walsh
A heartfelt Florida Keys romance with seaside cottage renovations, grumpy-sunshine sparks, and a hurricane-season love story full of healing, courage, and second chances.
4. One Last Thing
You might be living under a rock if you haven’t read at least one of the books in this series yet. And it’s excellent! Go get them all, now!
This book brings Clementine face-to-face with Silas, the man who once meant everything to her—and then disappeared from her life. When her best friend Sophie passes away, Clementine expects to grieve, attend the will reading, and avoid Silas as much as humanly possible. Instead, Sophie leaves behind one final surprise: a last request that will bring Clementine and Silas together again.
This is a tearjerker but also a laugh-out-loud, first-person POV series for readers who love emotional second-chance romance, best friend’s brother drama, forced proximity, and small-town stories with found family.
Heat Level:
No-spice / closed-door romance
Content Notes:
Death of a best friend/sibling, grief, custody of a child, old heartbreak, forced proximity, family conflict, KU.
By Susan Henshaw
A tender small-town romance with best friend’s brother tension, forced proximity, old heartbreak, and one very meddlesome final wish.
5. The Summer Hideaway
If you aren’t already wishing for a beach vacation, especially one in the Carolinas, you will be after this one. This uplifting summer romance follows Alice Emerson as she and her best friend Sasha leave inland life behind and chase a new dream on the beaches of the Outer Banks.
Love is not part of Alice’s plan, especially after past heartbreak, but mysterious and charming Jack Murphy keeps crossing her path. As Alice’s feelings for him grow, so do the complications. Jack may only be there for the season, and an old locket reveals a family secret that could change everything Alice thought she knew. This is a sweet, beachy pick if you love family mysteries and romance by the sea.
Heat Level:
No-spice / sweet romance
Content Notes:
Past heartbreak, family secrets, emotional uncertainty, small-business stress, seasonal romance, no explicit scenes, KU.
By Jenny Hale
A heartwarming Outer Banks romance with a beachside ice cream shop, fresh starts, family secrets, and the kind of seaside charm made for summer reading.
6. Diving into Love
This one’s been out for a few years already, but I enjoyed it, and it fits the bill for summer. This book follows Bree Garrett as she leaves behind a broken engagement, the New Mexico desert, and the life she’s ready to forget for a new start in the seaside town of Starlight Ridge. She has a few simple rules for coastal living: keep her fear of water a secret, avoid seafood at all costs, and absolutely no dating.
Naturally, those plans go sideways almost immediately when Bree lands a job at a surf shop and the owner, Caleb, mistakes her for a scuba instructor instead of a cashier. Lots of witty banter in this one, beach walks, and sweet romantic tension; it’s a fun summer pick for readers who love fresh starts and opposites-attract.
Heat Level:
No-spice / sweet romance
Content Notes:
Broken engagement, fear of water, mild romantic tension, workplace misunderstanding, starting over after heartbreak, swoony kisses, no explicit scenes, not in KU.
By Kat Bellemore
A breezy coastal romance with a fresh start, a surf shop mix-up, and one very inconveniently attractive man who makes avoiding romance nearly impossible.
